05/21 Charity Tea Party

On May 21st, Art Love Charity and San Marino Griffins Lions Club raised $1500 for American Cancer Society through an afternoon tea charity event. Xiao Ming, an excellent Michelin-starred Chef, volunteered her skills and worked past midnight to prepare food for the event. Our talented student volunteers performed wonderful music through various instruments. Trustee Linda Wah gave a passionate speech to the students and parents about flexible career and education opportunities offered at Pasadena Community College. Vivian Chan, a philanthropist and cancer survivor, and Dan Witzling, the Senior Executive Director of ACS, shared stories of their different battles against cancer and the importance of love to those who are still fighting it. The event was filled with music, love, fun, and goodwill.

拾光者的故事 u 缘起了解拾光者的人说，他们或许是一个中国版的“放牛班的春天”。在四川大凉山深处，生活着这么一群孩子。他们从小就失去了至亲，只能依靠自己稚嫩的小手，跟在大人的后面，艰难地生存下去。因为贫困，因为生存，他们无法像其他孩子一样走进校园，上学，只能自己一个人偷偷地在内心里想。要是被人发现了，还要假装自己根本不喜欢上学，顺便装出一副“谁稀罕上学”的表情来。就这样，他们错过了最佳的上学年龄。直到有越来越多的爱心人士知道了他们的存在，走进了他们的生活，愿意帮助他们走进校园。这些孩子，终于圆了上学梦。然而，过早地被生活折磨，过早地失去至亲，孩子们早已把自己裹得严严实实，任何人都无法走进他们那饱受生活欺凌、饱受他人欺辱的弱小心灵。老师们试着教孩子们唱村子里老人嘴边的民谣，试着教孩子们舒缓动听的童谣。音乐，无意间敲开了孩子们心灵的窗户。曾经自闭、自卑、乖张的孩子，慢慢变得乐观、开朗、大方、自信，慢慢敢与他人交流，慢慢愿意去相信同学，相信老师，相信大山外面的人。孩子们喜欢上了唱歌，喜欢上了那种用音乐来表达自我的方式。音乐，也带着孩子们，从大山深处，走上了越来越大的舞台，从教室里的讲台，到县里的舞台，到市里的剧院，再到湖南卫视、广西卫视、中央电视台等大栏目。孩子们来自大山的纯净声音，感染了无数人，也激励着越来越多的乡村儿童。后来，孩子们给自己取了一个名字——拾光者，希望自己能够不负韶光，追逐梦想；能够不负社会厚爱，拾起时光。这是一个延续了 10 年的故事，一个从一年级到高中的故事，一个从 2011 年延续到 2021 年的故事。这就是以曲比乌力、沙马拖千、吉竹石作、吉克金华、说日牛布和吉夺曲一 6 个凉山彝族孩子的逐梦路，也是拾光者乐队的故事。其实， 6 个孩子组成的拾光者，背负的，并不仅仅是他们自己的青春和梦想，还有背后那 30 多名同学的青春和梦想。他们从一年级开始，一起生活，一起学习，一起活动，一起学习民歌、音乐，在老师的带领下一起成立了玛薇少儿艺术团，一起成长，彼此陪伴，直到初中。因为资助的变动，他们走进不同的学校，因为没有人的支持，他们无法再在一起追逐梦想。所以，他们做了一个决定，推选出几名同学，愿意付出时间和精力，愿意冒险前行，去代替大家前行。而被...

4/20 Eco-Fashion Coronavirus Face Mask Donation Event Pt 2

In early 2020, the coronavirus pandemic infected millions of people and there was a low supply of face masks to provide protection. Although ALC understands that there is a difference in effectiveness between medical-grade face masks and homemade masks, ALC also recognized this emergency as an unique and urgent case, where people needed and welcomed any degree of protection possible. Thus, members of ALC, while quarantined in their homes in various locations around California, hand-crafted and donated face masks for their communities. Around 300 total face masks were donated by the end of this event.
